Selective growth of vertically aligned carbon nanofibres in sub-micron patterns and Raman mapping of produced arrays

چکیده
Carbon nanofibres are grown using a highly purified cobalt colloid catalyst. Nanocontact printing was used to deposit catalyst in patterns with sub-micron resolution over large areas on silicon wafers. Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition allows the direct growth of vertically aligned carbon nanofibres with good surface adhesion at lower temperatures. Production of the catalyst is described. Rutherford back-scattering detection Scanning Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy analysis confirmed tip-growth mechanism. Raman spectroscopy was used to map the patterned nanofibre arrays. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Controlled removal of individual carbon nanotubes from vertically aligned arrays for advanced nanoelectrodes†
A simple but effective method has been developed to controllably extract carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from their vertically aligned arrays on growth substrates. The intrinsic micron-scale roughness of the CNT surface enables the protruding nanotubes to make good contact with an adhesive layer which can then remove them from the array on the growth substrate. This approach allows us to manage and tai...
متن کاملFunctionalized Carbon Nanotubes Produced by APCVD using Camphor
A simple chemical vapor deposition technique at atmospheric pressure (APCVD) is adopted to synthesize the aligned arrays of functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (AMWCNTs) without using any carrier gas, at 230◦C, 750◦C and 850 ◦C. Camphor (C10H16O) is used as carbon source because this botanical hydrocarbon is chip and abundant which convert the CVD technique to a green method for produc...
متن کاملOptimized Conditions for Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition of Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotubes
Here, we have synthesized vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VA-CNTs), using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. Cobalt and ethanol are used as the catalyst and the carbon source, respectively. The effects of ethanol flow rate, thickness of Co catalyst film, and growth time on the properties of the carbon nanotube growth are investigated. The results show that the flow rate of ethanol and...
متن کاملOptical characterization of vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotube arrays
Here we discuss spectroscopic investigation and characterization of vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotube (VA-SWNT) arrays, which were synthesized using the alcohol catalytic CVD method [1]. Growth of the VA-SWNTs was monitored using an in situ absorbance measurement [2], which provides information about the growth process. Primary methods employed were Resonance Raman and UV-Vis-NIR...
متن کاملControlling the growth of vertically oriented single-walled carbon nanotubes by varying the density of CoAMo catalyst particles
A simple method to grow vertically aligned arrays of various forms of single-walled carbon nanotubes (V-SWNT) is reported. CO disproportionation on CoAMo bimetallic catalysts has been used in the synthesis. Resonant Raman and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were employed to characterize the as-produced SWNTs, which display a high purity and very low concentration of other carbon forms. C...
